What Goes Into This Recipe

This simple recipe for apple cinnamon crescent rolls requires only five ingredients! Grab them on your next trip to the store and you’ll be ready to bake them up!

ingredients for Apple Crescent Rolls on a white surface
  • Crescent rolls: This vegan crescent rolls recipe uses a tube of crescent rolls. You can find these in the refrigerator section of your grocery store. Believe it or not, most brands are vegan since they are made without dairy because butter doesn’t last as long as hydrogenated oils.
  • Apple: Honeycrisp apples are my favorite for their ultra-crisp texture and sweet flavor. You can swap it for other varieties of apples but try to avoid apples that have an overly mealy texture.
  • Sugar: I used a mixture of brown sugar, coconut sugar, and Stevia. Any granulated sugar option works.
  • Cinnamon: The perfect spice to pair with apples.
  • Vegan butter: To brush over the tops of the crescent rolls before baking in the oven. Adds a nice final bit of flavor and helps the apple cinnamon crescent rolls brown up nicely in the oven.

How To Make Vegan Crescent Rolls with Apple

  • 3) While apples are baking, combine the sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a small bowl and mix well.
  • 4) Roll out the crescent rolls and lightly brush with vegan butter and sprinkle each with a little of the sugar mixture.
  • 5) Place a baked apple slice into each crescent roll and roll it up. Brush the tops of the rolled crescent rolls with vegan butter and sprinkle more sugar on top. Bake apple crescent rolls according to the directions on the package.

Expert Tips and FAQs

  • Use a crisp and flavorful apple for the best outcome!
  • Bake in the middle of the oven for an even baking temperature.
  • Cut the apples into thin, even slices so they bake evenly.
  • Serve up cinnamon apple crescent rolls warm for the best flavor!
Are Granny Smith apples good for baking?

Yes, they are! They have a great crisp texture that holds up well when baked. Plus, they aren’t as sweet as some apples which makes them perfect for baking desserts that aren’t overly sweet.

Can I use puff pastry dough instead of crescent dough?

Yes, you can if the puff pastry dough is vegan. Many stores now carry vegan puff pastry. Follow the directions on the package for rolling it out. Cut the dough into isosceles triangles in order to roll them up as crescent rolls.

Can I freeze apple crescent rolls?

Yes, you can! Layer them in a storage bag or container in a single layer after they are completely cooled. Freeze them for up to three months. Allow them to thaw out on the container and then reheat in an oven at 325° F until warm.

Variations

  • Other fruit: Use fresh baked stone fruits such as peaches or plums.
  • Berries: Use any vegan berry jam with the apple or swap the apple for some sliced fresh berries.
  • Vegan chocolate: Place a small piece of dark chocolate in the middle to make dairy-free chocolate crescent rolls. Or sprinkle some chips over the baked apple for an apple and chocolate combination!
  • Add some nuts: Sprinkle a few chopped toasted walnuts or pecans over the apple just before wrapping it up.
