This room deodorizer is a great way to make use of your rosemary bush and to repurpose your leftover lemon peels. I wasn’t sure if this homemade air freshener was the right fit for Plant-Based on a Budget, but since it’s technically a recipe and purely plant-based — why the heck not?

Lemon Rosemary room spray in a bottle next to sliced lemons.

At some point, I saw something similar on Pinterest and I’m not sure why I didn’t save it, but I was inspired to recreate the mixture after opening the front door to a stinky home (due to compost) after a weekend away. I picked some lemons off the tree and rosemary from my front yard, to whip up this air freshener. Sourcing the ingredients from our yard makes this the cheapest recipe on our blog.

Although saving money is always great, I was most excited that this mixture made my house smell delicious.

Feel free to add some vanilla extract or lavender plant if you prefer those scents, but I kept mine simple and cheap using plants I already had access to in my garden.

With 2 cats and a compost bin that fills up instantly, this was the perfect way to freshen our house. My mother in law even commented that the house smelled to fresh and clean LOL.

This works so well! I am a bit obsessed with having a nice smelling house, and I only use natural sprays. They’re so expensive at the store I wanted to find a DIY version – this spray is perfect. It works better than the store bought stuff and is super easy to make!
