My two boys love pasta. So, I came up with this recipe to mimic a certain canned pasta product that you may or may not have eaten as a child. It’s super simple (only three ingredients!) and is ready in about 15 minutes.

Tomato sauces vary by brand and will affect the flavor of the end result, so check ingredients. I use Trader Joe’s organic tomato sauce, which contains tomato paste, sea salt, onion powder, garlic powder and citric acid.

Costs less than two bucks in all.

Ingredients

  • 7 oz. small, uncooked pasta (I used alphabet-shapes. Stars would be cute, too.)
  • 15 oz. tomato sauce
  • 1/4 C. nutritional yeast
  • salt, optional

Method

Step 1

In medium saucepan, cook pasta according to package.

Step 2

When tender, drain and return to pot. Stir in tomato sauce and nutritional yeast. Taste for seasoning.

Step 3

Done! See? I told you this was fast and easy!

I tried this out today, and I must say as a former connoisseur of said canned pasta product, the texture is spot on! The tomato sauce I used (Schnuck’s store brand) was a tad too acidic I think, so next time I’ll try a different brand or a cheap, pre-made spaghetti sauce. =)

When you find tomato sauce too acidic, add a touch of sugar. It will make this dish much more spot on! :)
