The Ingredients and Substitutes
Oil– 3 tablespoons of light-flavored (give garlic or rosemary flavored oil a try!)
Lemon Juice– 3 tablespoons of fresh-squeezed lemon
Sugar– 1-2 tablespoons
Poppy Seeds– 1 tablespoon
Salt– ½ teaspoon
Brussel Sprouts– 1 pound (washed and trimmed)
Apple– 1 apple (give granny smith a try or use your favorite apple)
How to Make Brussels Sprout Slaw?

To start making this yummy slaw, grab a medium bowl and whisk together the oil, lemon juice, sugar, poppy seeds and salt. Set aside.
Next you are going to half the brussels sprouts lengthwise, then slice thinly. Add the sliced brussels to the dressing.
You will then slice the apple into short matchsticks. Add to the dressing. Mix well.
Serve immediately or refrigerate for a few hours before enjoying.
Recipe Notes & Tips
If serving the salad after refrigerating, you will want to drain it before serving if it has released a lot of liquid.
Try this salad inside of a wrap with fresh lettuce and tomato for a delicious lunch!
Remove any outer leaves of the Brussels sprouts that are bruised or have black spots on them before shaving for the salad.
Optional Add-Ins to this Brussels Sprout Slaw
If you like an additional crunch and sweetness, you can add in slivered almonds and dried cranberries to this salad.
How to Shred Brussel Sprouts
You can just thinly slice them up by hand using a sharp knife, but word of advice, watch your fingertips!
Using a mandolin is worth a try (but this may take just as long as slicing them up by hand).
You can use the slicing attachment you may have gotten with your food processor.
Do I have to shred the brussels sprouts?
The thin slices though are highly suggested, eating a whole raw Brussels sprout covered in dressing would just be weird, and awkward, and grossly crunchy…and just all wrong.
Will this recipe be mushy?
No, since the brussels sprouts are uncooked, they are crunchy, sharp, which creates a fresh salad.
