Chocolate Avocado Mousse

We know, we know chocolate and avocados sound like a match made in hell, but trust us, this is a winning combination. If you actually think about it, avocados are naturally creamy and are a little bland, allowing them to soak up flavors.   It’s also a huge plus that this fancy dessert will take you about eight minutes to make and is a bonafide crowd pleaser.
We tried this dish at a veg friendly restaurant years ago while living in Boston and immediately had to replicate it. After some trial and error we came up with a perfectly fluffy and tasty mousse. It happens to be the most popular recipe ever on our company, Autonomie Project’s four year old blog. In fact, this recipe has wowed people young and old at many a potluck and BBQ. Even Jeremy’s 87 year old Grandma insisted on getting the recipe. Trust her,  she lived through the Depression, World War II, and the early, experimental years of fondue.

Ingredients

  • 4 Ripe Avocados
  • 1 Cup Sugar or Sweetener of Choice
  • 2/3 Cup Cocoa Powder
  • 1 Tbsp Vanilla Extract

Method

Step 1

Slice open avocados and scoop out the pulp into a food processor. Throw out the skins and seed.

Step 2

Add in the sugar or other sweetener (we like to use evaporated cane juice--which is just a different way of processing cane sugar), cocoa powder, and vanilla to the food processor.

Step 3

Food process the mixture until smooth. It should take you less than ten minutes to do this. You can also whisk by hand if you are strong enough, but the end result won't be quit as smooth.

Step 4

Serve in dessert cups or bowls. Garnish with berries or mint.

Step 5

You can store in the refrigerator, it will thicken the longer it is cooled.
