I made this burger one evening when I was just craving a large meal. I had a bit of this and that in the fridge, and this burger is what I came up with. It takes a bit of time to throw together, but it was worth it. The onion rings give it a nice crunch, and the tempeh strips give it a nice smokey flavor. You could sub the black bean pattie out with any of your favorite veggie burgers. This black bean pattie is just my, “go to.” I like to smoother mine in BBQ sauce and add lettuce and tomatoes. - 2 Cans of Black Beans, rinsed and drained
- 1/2 Cup of Bread Crumbs
- 1 Clove of Garlic
- 2 Tablespoons of BBQ Sauce
- Half of an Onion
- 8 Thin Strips of Tempeh
- 1/2 Cup of Non Dairy Milk
- 1/2 Cup Panko Bread Crumbs
- 1 Teaspoon of Maple Syrup
- 1 Teaspoon of Liquid Smoke
- 1 Teaspoon of Cajun Seasoning
- Buns, and your favorite burger toppings
Add beans, garlic, and BBQ sauce to food processor. Pulse until smooth.
Transfer bean mix to a bowl and add bread crumbs.
Form 4 patties, and place them in the fridge.
Pre heat oven to 450f.
Slice onion into rings.
Put milk in a bowl, and panko crumbs on a plate.
Dip onion rings into milk and after roll in the panko crumbs.
Place in oven and cook for 5 minutes, Flip and cook for 5 more minutes. Remove from oven and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
Toss tempeh strips in syrup, cajun seasoning, and liquid smoke mixture. Pan fry until heated through.
Remove bean patties from fridge and pan fry until crispy on both sides.
Assemble burger by putting bean burger on bun, top with 2 strips of tempeh, add your favorite toppings, and finish it off by placing two onion rings on each burger.
