One of the most common questions I get from readers is ‘what do I do with tofu?!’. The delicious bean curd is incredibly versatile; varying in firmness and taking on the flavor of whatever you cook it in. The texture ranges from silken to soft, firm, and extra firm. You can create to your heart’s content with this wonder food. Since February is Heart Health Month and so many of you are looking for lighter options (and ways to incorporate those air-fryer Christmas presents!), I’m excited to share this recipe with you for a super simple air fried tofu using Mazola® Corn Oil. I chose Mazola® Corn Oil for this recipe because it has more cholesterol-blocking plant sterols than other cooking oils. A clinical study showed Mazola® Corn Oil reduces cholesterol 2x more than extra virgin olive oil. To learn more about this claim, visit MAZOLA.com. Similar to the versatility of tofu, Mazola® Corn Oill is an all-purpose cooking oil that can be used in a variety of ways including baking, grilling, sautéing, mixing in a sauce, stir-frying and even air-frying!
With so many more of us cooking at home during the pandemic, I know how important it is to diversify the types of cuisine we cook. As a survey conducted by OnePoll found, it can be intimidating to try new things and a lack of knowledge on how to do so is a common barrier preventing 34% of respondents from trying lighter cooking. That’s why it’s great to have a quick and easy recipe with common and easily accessible ingredients that you likely already have on hand at home including an all-purpose cooking oil like the cholesterol-free, Mazola® Corn Oil that makes it simple and easy to prepare lighter meals.
For this Super Simple Air Fried Tofu, you’ll need the following four ingredients:
1 teaspoon (or small spray bottle) of Mazola® Corn Oil
1 (16-ounce) package of extra firm tofu, heavily pressed and cut into ½-inch cubes
2 tablespoons of soy sauce
¼ teaspoon of freshly ground pepper, to taste
I keep my Mazola® Corn Oil in a bottle and lightly coat my tofu with Mazola® Corn Oil before cooking it, so to start, place the tofu in a medium bowl with Mazola® Corn Oil until it’s thoroughly coated.
Next, I add in the soy sauce and freshly ground pepper and mix together. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
Spread a single layer of tofu in your air fryer. For the tofu to be evenly air fried, it’s best that the cubes don’t touch, then put it back in the air fryer.
It’s as simple as that! You can now enjoy a delicious new version of a favorite household staple. The tofu can be added to a salad, eaten as a snack, or plated with a meal by adding steamed vegetables and rice. It’s sure to be a hit in your home and a wonderful meal for Heart Health Month!
*Very limited and preliminary scientific evidence suggests that eating about 1 tablespoon (16 grams) of Mazola® Corn Oil daily may reduce the risk of heart disease due to the unsaturated fat content in Mazola® Corn Oil. FDA concludes that there is little scientific evidence supporting this claim. To achieve this possible benefit, Mazola® Corn Oil is to replace a similar amount of saturated fat and not increase the total number of calories you eat in a day. One serving of this product contains 14 grams of Mazola® Corn Oil.
Corn oil is cholesterol-free food that contain 14g of total fat per serving. See nutrition information on product label or at Mazola.com for fat and saturated fat content
