A Mouthwatering Summer Drink with a Twist

Smoothies are a great way to get instant relief from the sweltering summer heat. And we always grab an opportunity to add fresh fruits to our day. Oranges are great because they are packed with sweet and tangy pulps loaded with vitamin C and fiber. And these round orbs of sunshine are taking center stage with this fantastic summer drink.

We used fresh oranges for the creamy smoothie and doubled up the fun with an Orange n’ Cream GoodPop dipped into it because, why not? GoodPop creamsicles are delicious frozen treats made with clean, plant-based, organic, and responsibly sourced ingredients. We love how these clean-up classics are guaranteed not to contain HFCS, GMOs, refined sugar, or sugar alcohol sweeteners in their products. So, this Orange Creamsicle Smoothie does not only taste amazing, but it is also healthy, too!

Ingredients

ingredients for Orange Creamsicle Smoothie against a light background
  • Oranges –  Peeled and sliced. We like to get a sweeter variety of oranges like Valencia or Cara Cara. However, you can use whatever you find and just add more sweeteners if needed.
  • GoodPop creamsicles – We used oranges and cream for this smoothie recipe, but feel free to try out their delectable selection of flavors.
  • Vanilla soymilk – To give the smoothie a richer taste and creamy consistency. You can use plain soy milk or any other plant milk if that is what you have on hand. Just splash a bit more vanilla extract, if needed.
  • Agave – To sweeten things up! You can also use maple or coconut syrup.
  • Vanilla extract – Adds a delicate flavor and aroma.
  • Ice

Optional

  • Banana – We urge you to add this if you can. It will give the smoothie a thicker and creamier texture while adding loads of natural sweetness. I always keep frozen bananas for smoothie emergencies. They keep for 6 months!
  • Vanilla vegan yogurt – For layering.
  • Orange slices – For garnishing.

How to Make Orange Creamsicle Smoothie

  • 1) Flash-freeze the fruits. Place orange slices and banana (if using) in the freezer for 20 minutes.

  • 2) Blend! Once they’re mostly frozen, add them to a blender with the ice, soymilk, agave, and vanilla, and blend until smooth and creamy.

  • 3) Assemble. Pour ½ cup of plant-based vanilla yogurt into a glass, followed by the orange smoothie, filling about ½  inch away from the top of the glass. Garnish with an orange slice and GoodPop creamsicle. Repeat with a second glass. Enjoy immediately.

Helpful Tips

  • If your smoothie becomes too thick, add more plant-based milk or water until you are satisfied with the consistency.
  • If you are not using bananas, make this using coconut cream instead to achieve the same level of thickness.
  • Use smaller ice cubes. This will allow you to blend easier without overdoing it.
  • If your oranges are not sweet enough and you opted out of using frozen bananas, add more agave or sweetener.

Possible Add-ons

  • Sneak in some veggies! You can make this even healthier by adding vegetables like cauliflower, zucchini, or carrots. Your kids will not even notice them.

  • Protein powder is a great addition, especially if you are making this as part of your post-workout routine.
  • Other fruits like mangoes, melon, and different types of citruses would be best for this smoothie recipe. However, feel free to experiment with other fruits that are in season.
