Smoothies have a very special place in our hearts. What’s not to love? Preparing a healthy, refreshing, and nutritious drink in a few minutes is amazing. By now most of you might have incorporated smoothies into your lives one way or another and might have become familiar with the usual suspects. The green smoothie varieties or the more indulgent ones containing ingredients like banana, cacao, and peanut butter are all delicious and highly appreciated, but this berry lemon smoothie recipe is a whole different story.
A Perfect Summer Drink
This refreshing combination of blackberries, blueberries, grape juice, mint, and lemon juice is so unique and delicious. By using frozen berries (or ice cubes) it will turn out with a kind of slushy consistency, which makes it a perfect drink for a hot summer day. The addition of lemon juice gives it an almost berry lemonade feeling which means it’s a very thirst-quenching drink.
As always, you are always welcome to experiment with different additions or substitutions, in this case, you could replace the blueberries and blackberries with some strawberries or cherries. Or simply use mixed berries, which you can find in almost every grocery store and are super affordable. We always make sure to have a couple of bags in our freezer just to be prepared.
Frozen fruits are a great staple if you have a limited budget and you are trying to make healthier choices. Stocking up on frozen fruits and vegetables is a great way to start. Not only are they very affordable, but you don’t have to worry about an expiration date. Win-win!

- 1 cup of fresh or frozen blackberries
- 1 cup of fresh or frozen blueberries
- 2 cups purple grape juice
- 3 or 4 mint leaves
- 1/2 tablespoon of lemon rind lemon rind
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
- 10 ice cubes (if you’re using fresh berries)
- Lemon slices, for garnish
- Mint, for garnish
Throw all ingredients in a blender and mix well. To be fancy, pour the smoothie in a glass and garnish with a lemon slice (as pictured).
