3-Ingredient Summery Smoothie with Pineapple and Strawberry

If you haven’t already, then it is beyond time for you to hop on the strawberry and pineapple blend hype train. We’ve loaded them into crumbles, crisps, and pies for years. Now it’s the turn of this strawberry and pineapple smoothie.

The combination of sweet and juicy strawberries with tropical pineapple is naturally sweet, bursting with fruity flavor, and so satisfyingly refreshing. It’s also loaded with good-for-you antioxidants and nutrients (like vitamin C, folate, potassium, copper, and more) for anti-inflammatory, pro-digestive, and pro-immunity benefits.

Plus, you can use fresh or frozen fruit – we love the latter, so there’s ZERO prep. Just chuck everything in the blender and enjoy the smoothie for breakfast on busy mornings, as a tasty snack, or for sipping poolside in under 5 minutes. There are plenty of ways to customize it, too!

Enjoy pineapple all summer with a healthy green kale pineapple smoothie or other treats like coconut pineapple pie, pineapple muffins, and grilled pineapple slices.

The Ingredients and Substitutes

ingredients for Strawberry and Pineapple Smoothie on a white surface
  • Pineapple: We love frozen pineapple, but you can use fresh if preferred. Mango, or a combination of the two, would also taste delicious.
  • Strawberries: Save time and effort using frozen strawberries, though fresh work well when they’re in season.
  • Plant-based milk: Use any unsweetened milk. I.e., almond, cashew, oat, coconut milk, etc. For a lighter smoothie, try coconut water or orange juice.

You can also adjust the creaminess ratio by combining plant-based milk/yogurt AND juice and changing the ratio to your liking.

  • Peanut butter: (optional) To add healthy fats, richness, and some filling protein. Almond butter will work, too, or a nut-free option like sunflower seed butter.

Flavor Variations

  • Banana: Add 1 small or ½ large frozen, slightly overripe banana for a naturally sweeter, creamier banana pineapple strawberry smoothie.
  • Avocado: Add ½ a small avocado for creaminess with heart-healthy fats, antioxidants, plus several vitamins and minerals in this pineapple strawberry smoothie recipe.
  • Other fruits: There are several delicious flavor variations to choose from, including:
    • Blueberry strawberry pineapple smoothie
    • Pineapple kiwi strawberry smoothie
    • Mango pineapple strawberry smoothie
  • Greens: Add plenty of nutrients with a handful or two of spinach or kale.
  • Ginger: Just a little minced ginger (about ½ tsp) or ginger powder (a small pinch) complements the pineapple well and adds several health benefits.
  • Vegan protein powder: Add ½-1 scoop of unflavored or vanilla protein powder.
  • Rose water: Just a little complements the fruity flavors wonderfully.
  • Lemon/lime juice: Just a squeeze helps brighten the overall flavor.

FAQs

Can I use fresh fruit instead of frozen?

We love using fresh fruit when it’s in season (for the best flavor). However, note the consistency isn’t as thick and creamy when using fresh fruits.

Can I use canned pineapple?

That should work, but if you do, we recommend using pineapple in juice, not syrup, for the healthiest option.

You can use the reserved juice in smoothies, to make juice ice cubes, use it in popsicles, add it to marinades, and more.

Can I make this into a strawberry pineapple smoothie bowl?

Start with just a splash of plant-based milk, adding more – if needed- to help it blend properly into a thick, spoonable consistency. Then top with all your favorite toppings, like fresh berries, shredded coconut, chia seeds, cacao nibs, etc.

Pro Recipe Tips

  • Adjust the consistency: Adjust the amount of liquid for a thicker or thinner smoothie. If you’re using fresh fruit, optionally add ice cubes (plant-based milk or juice to avoid watering it down) for a thicker texture.
  • Sweeten to taste: We don’t add any extra sweetener, as pineapple and strawberries are both naturally sweet. However, if it’s too acidic/tart, add liquid sweetener or 1-2 dates.
  • Experiment with add-ins: You can play with mix-ins based on your desired flavor or nutritional profile.

Storage Instructions

It’s best to consume the pineapple and strawberry smoothie immediately, especially when using frozen fruits. However, fresh fruit smoothies can be stored in a lidded/airtight container for up to a day, mixing between servings.

You can also freeze leftover smoothie in Ziplock/Stasher bags (spread thin, excess air squeezed out) for up to 3 months. Leave it to thaw in the fridge overnight before shaking/stirring and enjoying it.

You can also pour leftovers into popsicle molds for a refreshing, summery treat.
