This recipe calls for popsicle sticks but if you don’t have any, we have a super easy swap for you. Do you have those classic leftover wooden chopsticks from your takeout orders? Who doesn’t, right? Any excuse to give these lonely chopsticks some use is welcomed by all. Cut them into the right size and you’re ready to go. Don’t you love being able to reuse something you already had? In a pinch, bar-b-que skewers also work.
If you’re a bit unsure about how to melt the chocolate, worry no more. We are happy to report that it can be a pretty seamless experience if you take a few things into account. Our preferred way to do it is with the classic double boiler system (which has been used for ages!), and it basically consists of melting the chocolate indirectly using hot water as the main source of heat.
You can use a proper double boiler but using a small saucepan and a mixing bowl on top will work just the same. Check out our guide to melting chocolate to see how it's done.
There are several variations we can apply to these Peanut Butter Banana Bars. First, if you have a peanut allergy or simply do not like peanut butter, you can opt for sunbutter (sunflower seeds butter) or almond butter. The results will be as tasty and nutritious. The sprinkled nuts, you can swap for sprinkles, coconut flakes, or goji berries if you’re feeling fancy.
