Crispy Fried Tofu Wontons

I adapted this recipe from an old friend’s.  It’s been the perfect side dish to bring to parties because this recipe makes a TON.

I consider it a blessing I don’t make these as often as I used to cause I would find myself gorging on these suckers relentlessly. Let me know what you think of them. Cheers!


  • 1 yellow onion
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 block of firm or extra firm tofu
  • 1/2 cup of teriyaki sauce
  • 1/8 cup soy sauce
  • 2 packs of (50 count) wonton wraps
  • oil for frying and deep frying
  • Sweet and sour sauce for dipping (optional)


Step 1

Mince the onion and the carrot in a food processor.

Step 2

Drain/press tofu, add teriyaki & soy sauce. Marinate for 5-10 minutes.

Step 3

Coat the bottom of a pan with oil and heat medium-high. Add minced carrot, onion, tofu and any excess sauce to the skillet.

Step 4

Using a ladle, crush the tofu until it's crumbly. Constantly flip until the ground tofu mixture is thoroughly cooked. When finished cooking, let cool.

Step 5

Once mixture has cooled, apply 1 teaspoon of the mixture in the center of a wonton wrap. Fold the wrapper in half to form a triangle using a small amount of water to seal the tofu mixture in. (You can leave it as a triangle and start frying or you may fold it like the pictures above) Repeat as many times necessary.

Step 6

On medium-high heat, fry the wontons until both sides are lightly browned, set aside the finished wontons to cool, and enjoy!
