If you’re a baking aficionado or just really love eating homemade cakes and cupcakes, then you’ll be thrilled to know you can count on this simple (but delicious!) Vegan Vanilla Buttercream Frosting recipe. You can use it to elevate your favorite cupcake recipe or to lather over a simple spongy cake. The possibilities for this delicious vanilla frosting are endless and it will become our go-to going forward.
The ingredients for this frosting recipe are very straightforward and easily accessible, but we encourage you to use unsalted vegan butter. Some of our favorite brands are Flora Plant Butter and Miyoko’s Creamery, so look out for those next time you’re going shopping. It’s always good to have a few blocks in your refrigerator for whenever the baking mood strikes! Alas, if you can’t find it, then salted vegan butter will be just fine.
Make sure you take the butter out of your refrigerator ahead of time to achieve the room temperature you’ll need for this recipe.
If you’re feeling a bit worried about not having the proper equipment to achieve the perfect fluffy frosting, do not worry. You don’t need a stand mixer to make stellar cupcakes or layered cake, a simple handheld electric mixer will do just fine. Remember that is what our grandmothers used and how much we cherish theirs. We do not recommend mixing by hand.
Depending on how you’d like to use your Vegan Vanilla Buttercream Frosting, you might need to adjust the consistency. This recipe is on the thicker side so it’s ideal if you’re thinking of using a piping bag to decorate. If that’s not the case, then we recommend smoothing it up with some more plant-based milk (one teaspoon at a time).
