We absolutely adore drinking smoothies as part of our morning ritual. They are a super quick, affordable, and easy way to start your days right and to get all those fruits and veggies in from the get-go. This cherry banana smoothie will take things to the next level though because the combination of cherries and bananas is truly made in heaven.

Chocolate Cherry Pie Smoothie?

This smoothie is not only a great choice for breakfast but an amazing snack (or even dessert!) since it feels so indulgent. The mix of the cherries, bananas, peanut butter, and cocoa powder tastes like a decadent cherry chocolate pie. It’s creamy, fruity, and delicious! Frozen cherries in itself are an amazing treat, especially during the hotter months. You can place some in a bowl and let them defrost slightly, and you have a fresh and fantastic snack.

Blending Tips

How do you enjoy your smoothie? Do you prefer a liquid drinkable beverage or a thicker “smoothie bowl” style shake? Well, depending on your preference we recommend adding ½ cup of plant-milk first and check the consistency. If it’s still too thick for your taste, go ahead and add the other 1/4 cup. You can adjust until you reach the desired consistency.

If you don’t have a powerful high-speed blender, you can start by blending half of the cherries and the milk and once that’s already smooth, continue with the rest. This will make it a lot easier to achieve that desired shake consistency without overworking your blender. You can apply this tip for any smoothie or shake you make going forward.

Did you know that cherries can help you improve your sleep quality? It turns out that cherries contain melatonin which is the component produced by our body to let us know when it’s time to sleep and when it’s time to wake up. So, if you’re having some trouble sleeping it might help to drink this smoothie in the late afternoon as a snack or as an after-dinner dessert.

There’s nothing like starting off your day with a fresh, nutrient-packed smoothie! This Cherry Banana recipe is the perfect blend to begin your morning strong!


  • 1 cup of frozen cherries
  • 1 large ripe banana (frozen or fresh)
  • 1 tablespoon of peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon of cocoa powder
  • ½ cup to ¾ cup of plant-based milk


  1. In a high-speed blender, combine the frozen cherries, banana, peanut butter, cocoa powder, and plant-based milk, and blend until it’s completely smooth. Start with ½ cup of milk and if you want a thinner smoothie, add the remaining ¼ cup.
  2. Note: If you’re using a standard blender (instead of a high-speed blender), start with the milk and ¼ cup of the cherries and slowly add in the rest of the ingredients. It’ll be easier on your blender.
