Winter Wonder Tonic

Winter is upon us and all this snow shoveling just begs for hot comforting beverages. This tonic is a favorite in my house. Loaded with Vitamin C, the Winter Wonder Tonic is a tart citrus drink that will warm you right up. It is very tart so it is best served with some kind of sweetener. Honey is my preferred sweetener but if you are a strict Vegan then Agave syrup will work just as well. This recipe makes 12 cups. Once the first 6 cups have been consumed you can add more water and get the full amount. Enjoy!

Winter Wonder Tonic

Winter is upon us and all this snow shoveling just begs for hot comforting beverages. This tonic is a favorite in my house. Loaded with Vitamin C, the Winter Wonder Tonic is a tart citrus drink that will warm you right up.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 Lemon
  • 1 Orange
  • 1 Tablespoon of fresh Ginger
  • 4-5 Cardamom pods
  • ¼ teaspoon of peppercorn
  • 1 Cinnamon stick
  • 6 cups of Water
  • Your choice of sweetener

Instructions
 

  • Slice orange and lemon. Crush the Cardomom pods. Remove outer skin of Ginger and chop it.
  • Combine all ingredients to a pot and bring to boil. Once it boils, cover the pot and reduce heat. Let it simmer until the citris fruit have softened.
  • Serve with your choice of sweetener.

Notes

Sweeten this tonic by the glass to get it "just right."
