Magical Turmeric (disclaimer: we are not registered dietitians, please consult with your doctor or an RD if you want info about turmeric).
If you haven’t heard of all the amazing benefits that turmeric fosters, then we are happy to point out a few of the many reasons we adore it. Here are other interesting facts about this bright orange spice:
The magic component in turmeric is called curcumin and it is highly anti-inflammatory and full of antioxidants
Curcumin is not easily absorbed by the body, but thankfully, that can be severely improved by pairing it with black pepper (like in this Golden Milk recipe!)
Curcumin is fat-soluble so make sure you pair it with a fatty ingredient, coconut milk would be great!
This amazing spice can help you improve heart health and brain function
Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, it is great for people who suffer from arthritis
See? This mighty root is pretty powerful! Even though it seems impossible, it has so many more amazing qualities than we could list here. We highly encourage you to make it a part of your diet and enjoy these benefits for yourself.
A Great Alternative To a Latte
If a mid-afternoon latte is your go-to but then struggle with sleep later in the evening, then it might be a great idea to switch it for this warming Golden Milk instead. You’ll get the same cozy feeling and boost but without the overstimulation from the caffeine.
In a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, heat the plant-based milk, maple syrup (or agave), vanilla extract, ground turmeric, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, and pinch of black pepper, and whisk regularly for about 5 minutes.
Remove from heat and serve when it’s hot to drink but not yet boiling.
