What better way to celebrate Halloween than to be crafty and creative with your food preparations, right? Since I am way past donning frightful costumes and collecting sugary treats, making these Spider Bagel Bites and my Halloween Peanut Butter Spiders are the next best thing!

How to Make the Edible Spiders

They are super easy to make! First, you will need 8 whole olives that you will place on the bagel hole. Once that is in place, cut some olive halves into thin slices to make the spider legs. Place 4 thin slices on each side of the whole olives. Lastly, cut the remaining olive halves into 2 equal pieces and place one on top of each whole olive to add the spider’s head. That’s all there is to it!

Ingredients You’ll need:

For the perfect Halloween party food starters or snacks, you will need the following:

ingredients for halloween spider bagel bites measured out against a white marble surface

  1. Mini Bagels –  Using mini bread is perfect to make single-serve, portable snacks that everyone can bring with them and munch on while the party is in full swing. We are using 4 mini bagels cut in half for this recipe.
  2. Pizza or thick Marinara sauce – You can make your pizza using either of these two.
  3. Vegan Cheese –  What good is a pizza if it doesn’t have cheese on it? The grated vegan cheese melted haphazardly on the bagel creates an illusion of spider webs that makes this treat even more fun!
  4. Black Olivesthese briny goodies are ideal for creating spooky culinary art. We used California Black Olives to make edible spiders.

Optional:

  1. Basil – It just blends well with the taste of tomatoes.  You can use fresh or dried basil.  Fresh basil is one great option and is recommended to be added to the pizza after it’s baked to keep its vibrant color. Dried basil, on the other hand, can be added either before or after baking.
  2. Minced veggies – you can use mushrooms, bell peppers, baby spinach, red onions, or cherry tomatoes too. They will make your bagel bites more substantial. Just make sure not to over-crowd it.

  • Bake time.  In a preheated oven at 350 degrees F, bake your bagel bites for 10-12 minutes until crispy and veggies are tender.
