Why you’ll love this family favorite recipe!

Whether you’re serving it as an appetizer with air fryer tortilla chips, tacos like these tofu tacos, or adding it to grain bowls like this sweet potato quinoa bowl, this salsa is the perfect combination.

Since this recipe relies heavily on fresh fruits and vegetables, we used Veggie Wash to ensure that they are clean and ready to eat.

Are your Fruits and Veggies Clean?

Fresh produce deserves more than a quick rinse. Water alone does not effectively remove waxes, pesticide residues, dirt, and handling residue that can remain on fruits and vegetables. In fact, 10 or more people may have handled your produce before it reaches your kitchen.

Veggie Wash is specially formulated to help clean fresh produce using naturally derived ingredients from citrus, corn, and coconut. It’s vegan, phosphate-free, kosher, contains no harsh surfactants or parabens, and leaves no aftertaste—so you can enjoy the natural goodness of your fruits and vegetables with confidence.

FAQs

Can you make strawberry salsa ahead of time?

Yes, but it’s best enjoyed fresh. You can prepare the salsa up to 1 hour in advance and refrigerate it before serving. If using avocado, add it just before serving to prevent browning.

How do you clean strawberries before making salsa?

Start by washing your strawberries before removing the stems to help prevent them from absorbing excess water. Since water alone does not remove waxes, dirt, pesticide residues, and handling residue, use Veggie Wash as part of your produce prep routine.

Can I use frozen strawberries for strawberry salsa?

Fresh strawberries are the best choice because they provide the ideal texture and flavor. Frozen strawberries become soft and release excess liquid as they thaw, which can make the salsa watery.

What can I use instead of cilantro?

If you’re not a fan of cilantro, try substituting fresh parsley, basil, or mint. Each herb gives the salsa a slightly different flavor.

Serving Suggestions

This versatile salsa works well in a variety of ways. Serve it with air fryer tortilla chips for an easy appetizer, spoon it over tacos (like these lentil tacos, tofu tacos, or tempeh tacos), or add it to this mango black bean salad or this vegan taco salad for extra flavor. It’s also delicious alongside stir-fried vegetables, this grilled tofu steak, these collard green wraps, or your favorite plant-based protein.

Storing Tips

Store strawberry salsa in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. For the freshest flavor and texture, it’s best enjoyed within the first 24 hours.

If you’re adding avocado, consider stirring it in just before serving, as it will brown over time. The salsa may release some liquid as it sits, so give it a gentle stir before serving again.

This recipe is not recommended for freezing, as the strawberries and other fresh ingredients will become soft and watery once thawed.
