Fish Sticks

I was craving some fish and chips this weekend.  Being somebody who does not eat fish, I needed to find an alternative.  Using nori, you get that seafood taste. You also get tons of health benefits from the nori sheets. These are a bit tedious to make, but the end result is worth the time it takes to roll each piece of tofu.  Enjoy!

Fish Sticks

Ingredients
  

  • 1 block of Extra Firm Tofu. Water pressed and drained out.
  • 4 Nori Sheets
  • 1 cup of Panko Bread Crumbs
  • 1 1/2 cups of Flour (any flour is fine)
  • 1 cup of Non Dairy Milk.
  • 1 teaspoon of Salt
  • 1 teaspoon of Old Bay
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Onion Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Garlic Powder

Instructions
 

  • Pre heat oven to 425f.
  • Cut tofu block in half lengthwise, then cut the two pieces in half lengthwise again. Cut the tofu blocks into long skinny strips.
  • Cut nori sheets in half lengthwise. Then cut the sheet into 3rds. You should end up with 6 pieces of nori per sheet.
  • Place tofu strip on top of nori piece. Roll, and seal. You can seal the nori by dipping your fingers in a bowl of water, and running your wet finger across the seam.
  • In a bowl, mix 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of non dairy milk, old bay seasoning, onion powder, and garlic powder.
  • On a plate, spread out 1 cup of bread crumbs and 1 teaspoon of salt.
  • On another plate spread out 1/2 cup of flour.
  • Take nori covered tofu strips and roll on the plate with flour.
  • Next dip the tofu strips in the flour and milk mixture.
  • Now roll the dipped tofu piece in the bread crumbs and salt.
  • Place pieces on a non stick, or cooking spray covered baking sheet.
  • Bake for 20 minutes or until pieces have become crispy.
  • Remove from oven and serve with ketchup, or a plant based tartar sauce. Enjoy!
