Why You’ll Love this Oven Baked Wedge Fries Recipe

If you are a fries lover, then these seed-coated potato wedges will be your new favorite! The sesame seeds add a nutty flavor and additional crunch that takes these otherwise ordinary baked fries to the next level. The sesame seeds are nutritional powerhouses that not only add great flavor, but also bring a nice helping essential vitamins and minerals.

Plus, since they are baked, these wedge fries are lower-fat, and more healthy than deep-fried fries! The best part? Potatoes are impressively budget-friendly while being hearty, filling, and nutrient-dense. That makes them an ideal side for just about any meal, not to mention an addicting snack, and a crowd-pleaser that the whole family will love!

Ingredients for Oven Baked Potato Fries with Sesame Seeds

  • Potatoes: I suggest russet or Yukon gold, unpeeled and cut into wedges. You can use any type of potato, preferably with a high starch content which is ideal for baking. You can also use sweet potatoes as an alternative.
  • Cooking oil: You can use avocado, grape seed, sunflower, etc.
  • Sesame seeds: I used white sesame seeds for this recipe.
  • Potato starch: This is optional, but it will make for extra crispy fries. So use it if you have it! 1 Tablespoon should be enough.
  • Nutritional yeast: Another optional ingredient, but also highly recommended. It will give you ‘cheesy’ fries with a savory flavor. You can also use vegan parmesan as a substitute.
  • Salt and Black pepper: To taste.

Toni’s Tips for Making Oven Baked Fries

  • Cut uniform pieces. Make sure that the potato wedges are uniform in size, so they bake evenly in the oven.
  • Use just enough oil. If the sesame seeds are not sticking to the wedges, add a bit more oil. Make sure you do not add too much, though, or your potato fries will get soggy.
  • Space the potatoes evenly in the pan. The more room between the wedges, the better. That allows the hot air to circulate better, making them super crisp fries. If you have a small pan, you can bake in batches instead.
  • Adjust baking time, as needed. The baking time may vary depending on how thick your wedges are. Test if they are baked through by sticking a toothpick into the thickest part of the wedge. If it pierces through easily, you can take them off the oven.
  • Let the baked fries rest. Rest the baked fries on the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a serving plate.
  • Add more flavor. You can add more flavor to your wedge fries by mixing in your preferred herbs and spices. Paprika, chili powder, garlic or onion powder, and parsley are some good choices.

Absolutely! You can try my Crispy Garlic Baked Potato Wedges recipe for the air-fryer potato wedges cooking instructions.

Can I peel the potatoes?

Yes, you can. It is entirely up to you. I like mine with the peel on my wedge fries because it adds more texture and nutrients, while shortening prep time.

Can I slice the sesame fries into thinner strips instead of wedges?

No problem! You can use the classic cut. However, make sure you reduce the baking time because they will cook faster.
