Ingredients for Vegan Pizza Rolls
All you need are a few pantry staples and your favorite pizza toppings to make the best vegan pizza rolls.

- Active dry yeast: This makes the pizza dough rise and gives it some chewy texture and flavor.
- Sugar: The sugar feeds the yeast helping it to activate.
- Flour: The foundation of a good pizza dough.
- Salt: Essential to the flavor of pizza dough. Without it, the pizza dough will really be lacking in flavor.
- Olive oil: This healthy oil is my favorite for making homemade pizza dough.
- Marinara or pizza sauce: Use your favorite store-bought jarred sauce or make homemade pizza sauce.
- Pizza toppings: The sky is the limit here!! I love chopped basil, sliced mushrooms, sliced black olives, vegan cheese, sliced onions, bell pepper, or even vegan beef crumbles.
How To Make Pizza Rolls Vegan

Step 1: In a bowl, add the yeast and sugar to the warm water (105° F) and mix until the ingredients dissolve. Then let it sit for about 5 minutes until a foamy surface appears, letting you know the yeast is activated.

Step 2: Meanwhile, in a separate bowl, combine the flour and salt. Then add the olive oil and yeast mixture and stir until thoroughly combined and a dough forms, about 1 or 2 minutes.

Step 3: Next, turn the mixture onto a floured surface and knead until it becomes smooth, about 7 minutes or so.

Step 4: Roll the pizza dough into a ball and place it in a lightly oiled bowl, making sure to lightly coat the whole ball with the oil. Then cover and let sit for 1 hour, allowing the dough to rise.

Step 5: In the meantime, prepare your toppings and preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

Step 6: After an hour, turn the dough out onto a surface and roll out flat into a rectangle. Then add sauce and toppings.

Step 7: Next, roll the dough, from the bottom to the top, into a tube. Then, using a sharp knife, cut out slices about 1′ or so thick.

Step 8: Gently and carefully transfer the rolls to a non-stick baking sheet or a baking sheet covered in parchment paper.

Step 9: Finally, bake for 18-20 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown. Then remove and allow to cool a little before serving.
Toni’s Recipe Tips
- Water should be lukewarm. For best results, use a food thermometer, it should be about 105 degrees F.
- Filling the pizza rolls. I would recommend putting the toppings in separate rows and leaving lots of breathing room near the top.
- Save some time. Skip making your own pizza dough and pick up a vegan pizza dough ball at the grocery store or market.
FAQs for Vegan Pizza Rolls
No, in most restaurants and packaged products, pizza rolls are made with dairy-based cheese so they are not vegan. But since pizza dough is typically vegan, they can be easily made vegan by simply ditching the dairy cheese.
If you’ve got some leftover pizza rolls stored in the fridge or freezer, it’s super easy to reheat. I prefer to thaw them out first so they cook more quickly. Lay them out on a baking sheet and heat in a 350° F oven for 10-15 minutes until heated through. You can also heat pizza rolls in the air fryer, or in the microwave, though it may alter the texture of the dough.

Vegan Pizza Roll Flavors
The beauty of making healthy pizza rolls vegan is that it’s so simple to personalize the flavors. Here are some ideas to consider for inspiration.
- Change the sauce: Use a creamy vegan alfredo sauce, garlic sauce, or vegan pesto instead.
- Veggies: Chopped broccoli, spinach, mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, and olives.
- Vegan meat: Use your favorite vegan meat products to add the flavors of pepperoni or Italian sausage.
- Vegan cheese: Add a sprinkle of your favorite vegan cheese to the inside or over the top.
Serving Suggestions
- Dipping Sauces: Dip in a side of extra marinara sauce or try it with creamy garlic sauce, vegan Caesar dressing, vegan pesto, or a creamy tomato sauce.
- Bread: Pizza rolls, like pizza, pair magically with garlic bread. Or go healthy with this breaded cauliflower.
- Salad: Make it a complete meal with a vegan Caesar salad, kale salad, or rainbow salad.
- Dessert: Continue the hand-held pastry theme with some hand pies, like these mango hand pies.
- Appetizer Spread: Include pizza rolls on a crowd-pleasing appetizer spread with BBQ Cauliflower Wings, Chips & Nacho Cheese, Buffalo Tofu Wedges, Crispy Garlic Baked Wedges, and/or Stuffed Roasted Sweet Peppers.
