Thai Pizza Ingredients

It’s easy to make your Thai pizza recipe vegan with a few ingredient swaps.

ingredients for thai pizza measured out against a white surface
  • Pre-made pizza dough: I used pre-made dough from Trader Joe’s to make this Thai pizza with peanut sauce. I’ve also found that many pizza places will sell you a ball of dough for super cheap if you call ahead. Or, of course, you can always make from scratch.
  • Crunchy peanut butter: I prefer crunchy because it adds some texture but creamy works too!
  • Coconut milk: Make sure to use canned coconut milk for the best and most authentic flavor.
  • Soy sauce: Gives some salty, umami flavors to the tofu.
  • Garlic and ginger: Use fresh garlic for the best flavor.
  • Agave: To add some sweetness. You can swap for any other liquid sweetener.
  • Lime juice: A bit of acid to balance the sweet flavors.
  • Tofu: Cut up into cubes or crumble the tofu for a tender texture on this vegan pizza.
  • Pineapple: The perfect sweetness to balance the salty flavors of the sauce.
  • Cilantro: Its citrus notes and herb flavors meld well with the other ingredients.
  • Carrots: For some color and crunch on the top of the pizza.
  • Green onion: Gives the pizza a light onion flavor, allowing all the other flavors to shine through.

How to Make Vegan Thai Pizza

Preparations:

  • First, prepare pizza crust according to package instructions and preheat the oven.

Step 1: Combine the peanut butter, coconut milk, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, agave, and lime juice along with the tofu in a pot. Then stir together, cooking at the lowest heat.  Continue cooking for 4 to 5 minutes.

Step 2: Next, place the pizza crust on a baking sheet or pizza stone. Then top it with the sauce and tofu. Then add the pineapple, carrots, green onion, and cilantro, reserving 1/4 cup of cilantro for later.

Step 4: Finally, bake until the pizza crust is golden brown. Mine baked for 20 minutes. Once it’s done, sprinkle the remaining cilantro over the top.

Toni’s Recipe Tips for Vegan Pizza

  • Use crunchy peanut butter: For more texture than creamy peanut butter.
  • For meal prep: When making the sauce in advance, heat it before adding it to the crust to bake.
  • Make it spicy: If you like your Thai flavors with a little spice, add a bit of Sriracha, red pepper flakes, or diced fresh chili to the sauce or simply drizzle it over the top just before serving.
  • Use a pizza stone: If you have one this makes an ultra-crispy crust!

FAQs for Thai Pizza Recipes

What to put on Thai pizza?

To create the fusion flavors of Thai and pizza add chopped peanuts, chopped cilantro, bean sprouts, a squeeze of lime, peanut sauce, chilies, shredded coconut, pineapple, and green onions. Chickpeas and tofu make neutral-flavored protein toppings that work great with these flavors.

How do you make vegan pizza taste better?

Start with a delicious sauce as a base and then layer on the flavor with toppings and if your skipping the vegan cheese, add on a sauce or sprinkle of fresh chilies and herbs just before serving.
